Code of Ethics
1. CONDUCT
1. All members must abide by all CMTC and CKC rules concerning
purebred dogs.
2. All CMTC members must be in good standing with the Canadian
Kennel Club.
3. Members are expected to conduct themselves in a manner to
reflect favourably on the CMTC, Manchester Terriers as a breed, and
all aspects of competition concerning this breed.
4. The membership is encouraged to be "ambassadors" for the breed
and do their best to encourage responsible ownership through
education and support of new members and new Manchester Terrier
owners.
5. Responsible ownership includes respect for show sites, other
exhibitors and their dogs, as well as respect for the general public
and public property.
2. HEALTH
1. Responsible breeders will breed only healthy stock and be
aware of the various breed conditions.
2. To this end they should be aware of the various breed
conditions such as von Willebrand's Disorder (vWD), Legges Perthes,
Thyroid disorder, PRA and others, and test accordingly before
breeding. Responsible breeders will use available tests to ensure
that to the best of their knowledge they are producing sound healthy
Manchester Terriers.
3. As VWD is clearly one of the most prevalent conditions within
this breed the CMTC members are strongly encouraged test all
potential breeding stock using one of the tests currently available
and that all efforts be made to eliminate this problem in future
generations. Test results are to be made available to potential
buyers/owners of stud/bitches/puppies/dogs.
3. BREEDING AGE
1. The CMTC recommends that bitches not be bred before the age of
two and it is recommended that bitches not be bred after their
eighth birthday. Back to back breedings are discouraged, and no more
than three litters within a twenty four month period.
2. Dogs should not be used at stud before they reach twelve
months old, and under normal circumstances not be used after the age
of twelve.
3. No owner of a stud dog will be allowed to service a bitch
who's owner is indirectly or directly involved with any puppy
broker, puppy mill, litter lot sales or any enterprise whose
business is involved in like activities of the same or any other
breed. Likewise, no owner of a bitch shall have dealings with any
puppy broker, puppy mill, litter lot sales or any enterprise whose
business is involved in like activities of the same or any other
breed.
4. Owners of the bitch and the stud are responsible for the
litter from the resulting breeding and will ensure that the puppies
be placed in suitable homes.
4. PUPPIES/DOGS PLACEMENT
1. No puppy (dog) shall be sold to commercial facilities,
businesses or agents thereof.
2. All sales of puppies (dogs)are to be accompanied by a written
sales agreement by the breeder/seller of the puppies(dogs) and
agreed to and signed by all parties involved in the sale or transfer
of ownership of the puppy(dogs). The written agreement is also to
include all details about the puppy/dog, including registration,
information on and including health records and future care
requirements for the welfare of the puppy/dog.
3. The CMTC recommends releasing puppies to their new homes only
at or after 8 weeks of age and to consider size and age when
shipping all Manchester Terriers to insure their safe arrival.
4. Members are encouraged to select and place any puppies (dogs)
that are unsuitable of a breeding program in suitable homes under
CKC non-breeding contracts or other suitable spay/neuter contracts.
This does not include neutered or intact pets of the breeder.
Violators of the CMTC code of ethics
will be subject to actions by the Board of Directors.
