Toy Manchesters suffering from a
cardiac episode caused by Juvenile Cardiomyopathy (JCM) have historically passed away very
quickly. As is consistent with an arrhythmic death, puppies may
let out only a single cry or perhaps make no sound at all. Few
puppies have survived long enough to make it to a veterinarian. In
all cases, the condition has been fatal.
If your Toy Manchester puppy is
being treated for a cardiac issue in an emergency setting, information
from diagnostic tests may be invaluable to study investigators as little
information is available on the disease antemortem. A complete
list of possible tests is available in our
Heart Examination Checklist
Please note: While this
information is important, these tests should not be performed at the
patient's expense. The comfort of the puppy is of utmost
importance. It should also be noted that associated costs are the
responsibility of the owner or breeder.
If your puppy has already passed away,
please consult our Necropsy Options
and Guidelines.
