Genetic Testing
Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania has agreed to assist with investigation of a possible genetic test for Juvenile Cardiomyopathy (JCM) in Toy Manchester Terriers. In order to proceed, however, DNA samples from at least 10 affected puppies must be collected via necropsy. Because samples were not gathered in all previous autopsies, we currently only have a few samples on file.
Please check the Postmortem Examination section of this website for information on necropsies, necropsy support and protocols for collecting and submitting DNA information (see Gross Pathology Protocol). It is imperative that puppies who die suddenly be necropsied and that samples indicated be taken and submitted.
